2019 Election Will Be Violence Free, Says Gov.Ganduje

Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has reiterated the commitment of his administration towards ensuring violence-free election to sustain the National democracy and the existing peace and stability.

August24news.com gathered that the Governor gave the assurance at the opening ceremony of a one-day sensitization on Violence-free election for North West organised by the New Partnership for Africa’s Development /Africa Peer Review Mechanism held at Africa House, Kano.

” it is in view of this, the present administration embarks on Youths empowerment across the 44 local government areas of the State which will definitely address the issue of unemployment and make our Youths more productive.

” the most improtant thing is that these Youths that stay under the Sun, Rain and whatever during election, you empower them, and that is what this administration has embarked on. So far, over 700,000 Youths have been empowered and at the end of this tanure, we are going to empower 1million Youths in the State” he stated.

Dr. Abdulahi Ganduje represented by his Deputy Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna noted that election is now becoming very stable and violence-free in Nigeria, citing the immediate Osun State Governorship election which the Governor Chaired its APC election Committee, as the most peaceful election in the recent time.

According to the Governor, in checking the remote causes of violence not only during election, there was the need to identify the relatiinship between violence and other issues like drug abuse in our society.

” few days ago, Kano State Government in collaboration with Daily Trust organised a Seminar on Drug Abuse as part of its effort to curtail the menance of illicit drug being one of the causes of Youth violence” he explained.

Ganduje however drew the attention of all political Parties in the State to shun the act of perpetuating haterate among the followers which he described as one of the genesis of violence during election.

He said ” our Parties should not put us apart, our Parties should not bring haterate to us. that haterate is what brings about violence ”

Earlier, the National Coordinator New Partnership for Africa’s Development Princess Gloria Akobondu said the programme aimed at sensitizing people especially youth from the North West Zone on the need to have a “violent-free election” comes 2019 general election in Nigeria.

She explained that in line with Change Agenda of the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, the President deemed it neccessry to support the organ of the African Union to advocate and carry out peace messages to all the nooks and cranny for peaceful election in the country.

“our team has come to work with people from the grass roots, the civil groups, the Market Women and KeKe NAPEP to make them more sensitized and understand what they are expected to do during and after the 2019 general election” she disclosed.

She identified election rigging and votes buying as some of the causes of election violence which could only be addressed when the voters know their civil right as citizens.

Gloria solicited the support of the State Government, Stakeholders and all people in the state towards the successful implementation of the programme.

Good will messages were delivered by by different stakeholders across the State including Parties representatives, religious leaders, security agencies as well as Youth representatives.
