LAGOS APC PBAT-KOH CAMPAIGN COUNCIL MOURNS PA FASORANTI

The Lagos APC PBAT-KOH Campaign Council, under the leadership of its Director-General, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, mourns the passing of Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the revered Yoruba elder statesman, nationalist, educationist and former leader of Afenifere, whose life was defined by service, courage, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the progress of Nigeria.

Pa Fasoranti’s transition marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in the history of Yoruba socio-political development and the wider Nigerian democratic struggle. He belonged to that distinguished generation of nationalists whose convictions were forged in the furnace of principle, whose voices remained resolute in moments of national uncertainty, and whose commitment to justice, democracy and good governance transcended partisan considerations.

As a respected leader of Afenifere, Pa Fasoranti occupied a significant place in the evolution of progressive politics in Nigeria. His association with the ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo reflected a lifelong commitment to progressive governance, educational advancement, social welfare and the empowerment of ordinary citizens. These principles remain enduring pillars of democratic development and responsible leadership.

The Council recognises that Pa Fasoranti’s contributions went beyond political advocacy. He represented a moral voice in public life, consistently reminding leaders and citizens alike that political power must be exercised with responsibility, public service must be guided by conscience, and the pursuit of national progress must never be sacrificed on the altar of personal ambition.

His long life witnessed defining moments in Nigeria’s political journey, including the struggle for democratic restoration and the continuing quest to build a nation where justice, equity and opportunity are available to all. Through changing political circumstances, he remained a symbol of conviction and steadfastness, earning the respect of admirers and political associates across ideological divides.

At a time when Nigeria requires the wisdom of its elders, the discipline of principled leadership and a renewed commitment to national unity, the passing of Pa Fasoranti is a profound loss. His departure reminds us that while individuals eventually leave the stage, the values they uphold and the institutions they help shape must endure beyond their lifetime.
