A delegation from the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), led by its National President, Princess Edna Azura, on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, paid a condolence visit to the National Population Commission (NPC) at its headquarters in Abuja over the death of its Chairman, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, who passed away on August 28, 2026.
The delegation was received by the Federal Commissioner representing Plateau State, who is currently overseeing the office of the NPC Chairman, Dr. Mrs. Mary Ishaya Afan, mni, alongside other Federal Commissioners, the Director-General, and management staff of the Commission.
Speaking during the visit, Princess Azura described the late Chairman as a “great hero” whose death was felt deeply beyond the walls of the Commission.
“Our partnership with the NPC has come a long way, and so this loss is not only yours, we really felt it,” she said. “But there is nothing we can do; we cannot question God why it happened. We have come to commiserate with you over the loss of your Chairman, the late Dr. Aminu Yusuf, and we want to encourage you that we have to move on.”

The NCWS President presented a condolence letter on behalf of the Council, expressing solidarity with the Commission during what she described as a moment of profound grief.
Responding on behalf of the Commission, Dr. Afan appreciated the NCWS delegation for the visit, describing the death of the late Chairman as a shocking and monumental loss from which the Commission is yet to recover.
She noted that Dr. Yusuf was a visionary leader who came into office with a 7-Point Agenda aimed at transforming the Commission, adding that he was gender-sensitive and had consistently supported policies and initiatives that promote women’s empowerment.
Dr. Afan assured the delegation that the Commission would sustain the late Chairman’s 7-Point Strategic Agenda and the other programmes he initiated before his sudden demise.

The NCWS delegation offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Dr. Yusuf’s soul and later signed a condolence register in honour of the deceased.
