Health can be can generally, be measured on major three parameters: physical, Psychological and Nutritional. Physical health means the physical appearance of a person,  Nutritional health means the presence of essential nutrients in the body to fight diseases with immunity.

Psychological health means the ability in a person to maintain patience, calm and composure in all circumstances of life
       

Health Professions consider cancer, diabetes and several other mental and physical health issues such as depression, lethargic attitude, e.t.c to deficiencies in fitness and well being of a person.

Unhealthy and unfit lifestyle of a person aldo results in premature death. Obesity and lack of physical fitness in young generations set the stage for diabetes, heart disease, and other serious health problems. 

Walking, running, cycling, playing,swimming, gardening, skipping, weight-lifting and Yoga are some of the important activities which helps maintain fit and health lifestyle.

A person who is fit and healthy lifestyle. A person who is fit both physically and mentally is strong enough to face the ups and down of life, and is not affected by drastic changes in the circumstances.

One should also spend time outdoors in the sun, inhaling fresh air and taking part in healthy activities.Staying activities. Staying active makes you stay energetic.

Out of the several components that affect one’s health, following are the seven key physical components to ensure the overall good health, fitness and mental well being

7. Sleep- Regular sleep
 Eating healthy and nutrients rich food, exercising, taking sufficient sleep, avoiding intake of harmful substances are just few simple ways to stay healthy and fit.

These are directly related to our mental, physical and emotional health. Fitness and mental well being are essential parts of healthy life.

The benefits of an active and a healthy lifestyle are undeniable by all means.whether you decide to increase your activity level slightly or develop and participate in a thorough fitness plan, it will pay you off in the long run. Exercise is a good for you health of various organ of your body and makes you feel stronger.

Nutrition and fitness are essential for a healthy living. Not only we look and feel good, but by eating the nutritional food and doing the right amounts of exercise we could also the Lower the chances of getting some pretty serious life threatening diseases.

LAWMA Organises Medical Checks For Sweepers

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has organised a free medical screening, for over 1000 sanitation workers (street sweepers) August24news.com has learnt.

The event took place at the Authority’s headquarters, Ijora Olopa. Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, noted that the exercise was a testament to the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, to prioritise the wellness of LAWMA sweepers.

He said, “Your well-being is our priority. Whatever happens to your health, will affect us in one way or the other. Therefore, we don’t want
any ill-health to befall you.

Today, your blood pressure, sugar level, urine and eye and hepatitis will be checked for proper diagnosis.

The aim of this is to manage the health of our workers and detect early health issues.

Our sweepers are our heroes, we need to take good care of them. We have over 16,000 of them who keep Lagos clean everyday. Our aim is to ensure we capture all of them in this screening exercise and there will be follow ps.

Some will be administered for consultation, some will be for referral, some will be given medications. All of these is to ensure their health is properly managed.

We appreciate the Governor for his
consistent support”.

The Medical Director of LAWMA, Dr. (Mrs.) Modupe Okoh, noted that the medical screening exercise was a demonstration of the state’s commitment to the welfare of LAWMA’s workforce, adding that early detection of
diseases would go a long way in helping to manage the health of sweepers who work tirelessly.

One of the beneficiaries, Nafisat Rahman, appreciated the state government for the medical checks.  In her words: “We do spend a lot on hospital bills, but with this kind of initiative, it will reduce it and we will be more aware of our health status. I want them to continue with this kind of exercise”, she said.

Another beneficiary, Godwin Imeh, said the medical screening exercise was a nice initiative. He encouraged the Authority to continue to
prioritise the welfare of sweepers.

In attendance at the event were members of LAWMA’s management staff.

The medical outreach for LAWMA’s sanitation workers is a continuous exercise, with sweepers in other districts in the state set to benefit from the health screening.

HFN Urges Nigerian Government to Pave Way For Diaspora Doctors

HFN urges Nigerian govt. to pave way for diaspora doctors

The President of the Healthcare Federation of Nigeria, (HFN), Dr. Pamela Ajayi, has called upon the Nigerian Government to implement policies that will create enabling environment for Nigerian doctors in diaspora to return home and help revamp the healthcare system. She made this call at the Doctors For Change (DFC) convention that held in Lagos recently.

Dr. Pamela who highlighted the current crisis facing the sector in light of the loss of skilled healthcare personnel (aka brain drain) and other challenges that the healthcare sector has suffered urged that government puts policies in place to harness the potentials and capability that these highly skilled and experienced medical personnel in the diaspora can bring to Nigeria beyond the huge amount of foreign exchange in diaspora remittances coming from health workers abroad.

“It is absolutely critical that the government signs off on the National policy incentivising the Health Industry as soon as possible thereby creating an enabling environment for the skills and talents of doctors and other healthcare personnel in the diaspora returning home and also encourage direct foreign Investments (DFI) in the sector”, she said. She lauded the organisers of the DFC convention saying it is a step in the right direction.

Speaking during an interview, the Commissioner of health of Lagos State Prof. Akin Abayomi who also attended the convention emphasized the fact that the problems in the healthcare sector can only be tackled effectively through government collaboration with private sector and expressed delight about the potentials that the DFC convention portends for the sector.

He revealed that the government will continue to work on setting up necessary policies and infrastructure that will enhance effective collaboration between government and such organised group as DFC because healthcare occupies a very important place on their agenda.

On his part, The Chairman of Board of Governors of the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos – Dr. Aderemi Desalu, while addressing the convention remarked that the diaspora doctors have the capability to provide the same high standard and quality healthcare that cost Nigeria so much yearly. He believes that the astronomical cost of medical tourism can be reduced drastically by engaging them.

He applauded the DFC convention for taking the initiative while expressing hope for positive outcomes.

Exhibiting and represented at the event were some of the diaspora hospitals with specialist healthcare services transforming healthcare in the Country today including The Duchess International Hospital, The Bridge Clinic, Marcelle Ruth Cancer Centre, Brain and Spine Surgery Ltd, Pneumacare, First Cardiology Consultants.

The highly cerebral event featured a wide variety of speeches and panel discussions with specialists taking audience on expository journey through their work and experiences. Among them were President, Nigerian Advocacy Physicians Advocacy Group, Dr. Iyore James; President, Guild of Medical Directors, Dr. Abiodun Kuti; President Association of Nigeria Private Medical practitioners, Dr. Kay Adesola; and President Association of Nigeria Physicians in the Americas, Dr. Chinyere Anyaogu amongst others.
