From all indications, it is very glaring that Ifako-Ijaiye local government is getting it right after a very long period of time.
It is very pertinent to note that Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji (ATA) has been the pilot to the reorientation of the people, which has, in turn, broadened their horizons.

It is also worthy to state here that Hon. Temitope has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that truly if our politicians are committed, the people will definitely benefit.

This has shown in his activities and affiliations with those that matter at the helms of affairs in the state just to bring monumental development to Ifako Ijaiye local government and change the narratives.

The presentation of Hon. Usman Akanbi Hamzat to represent the All Progressives Party (APC) as the chairmanship aspirant in the forthcoming local government election has witnessed an overwhelming support from all the groups that make up APC in Ifako-Ijaiye.

Being supported also by a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ifako-Ijaiye 02, Hon. Rasheed Makinde Lanre, who, in turn, is the leader of Makinde Formidables, a group that has over a thousand youths in all the nooks and cranny of the local government, is commendable and convincing that UAH is the man of the people.

Also, a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Dayo Saka Fafunmi, the leader of the Omoluabi Group, Hon. Kayode Aremo, and other notable leaders have thrown their weight behind the same aspirant. Now, even a fool will be convinced that Hon. Usman Akanbi Hamzat is the man of the people.

To say the least, Hon. Usman Akanbi Hamzat is an excellent aspirant who has the will to take the party to greater heights and bring succour to the people of his communities. He was an acting chairman for just 81 days sometime ago and he performed excellently. This can be testified to by the people of the communities.

He facilitated five roads within this period, supported artisans, had monetary support for people irrespective of their tribe or any other supposed consideration, approved the purchase of vehicles to councilors and other political office holders and heads of departments, brought smiles to the faces of the staff and, in total, changed the face of the council.

This, in no doubt, has placed Hon. Usman Akanbi Hamzat above every other aspirant and, if given a full support to become the Chairman of Ifako Ijaiye Local Government, sincerely, no one will regret but be grateful.

DEMOCRACY DAY: How to build Nigeria of our dream – By Mudashiru Obasa

DEMOCRACY DAY: How to build Nigeria of our dream – By Mudashiru Obasa
As we mark another democracy day, it is worthy of note that Nigeria has been able to sustain its current civil rule for 22 years. This is proof that the citizens are all united in a decision to ensure a government where their collective voice is heard, where there is equity and majority rule as devoid from what obtains under a military regime.

Coincidentally, today marks the 28th anniversary of June 12, which has become the synonymous with the victory of the late Bashorun MKO Abiola at a presidential election which was truncated in 1993.

The fact that the country has remained united in spite of our differences and challenges is proof that deep inside of us, we love ourselves and our neighbours, we want peace, we want to truly be proud to be associated with Nigeria.

Nigeria has come a long way in its journey to progress. We have experimented with various forms of government and we agree that none is better than democracy. If that is the case, we all, individually and collectively, have the responsibility to make it work, not just for itself, but for our own good and the good of the nation.

We must all resolve to shun actions that anti-progress. Rather, we must begin to engage in healthy competitions, show more interest in how we are governed and support the dream for a better Nigeria always.

We must start that change we so much desire from our small corners with that optimism that we will all be better off for it. We have no other country, except Nigeria. We, the leaders and the led, must be ready to keep our land sacred, devoid of the growing tension and challenges of insecurity.

I congratulate our leaders, including Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who fought, staked their lives, their energies and resources to wrestle power from the military government and make this democracy work.

I also congratulate Nigerians and the residents of Lagos, a state that has become a benchmark for measuring success, where the government works tirelessly to create a friendly environment for its inhabitants.

At the Lagos Assembly, we have been able to raise the bar in legislative practices, we have produced laws and motions with the people in focus.

We will not relent on this. Our state must continue to blaze the trail.

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently act on the requests recently made by the Southern Governors Forum as a way to curb rising insecurity in the country.

Speaker Obasa made the appeal in a statement on Wednesday to commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrated by Muslims across the world.

Obasa expressed belief that the security and economic challenges Nigeria is faced with at the moment are a face from which the country would come out stronger.

According to the former chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, “President Buhari should not only give a thought to the requests made by the governors, he should also implement them for the country to move forward.

Appealing to the citizens of the country not to lose faith and hope, the Speaker said: “This year’s Ramadan afforded many of us the opportunity to pray for the country. It is obvious that the country has some challenges.

“However, the challenges should not be left to the government alone. Every citizen of Nigeria is important and must play that positive role that would ultimately move the country from where it is now to where we want it to be.

“We are a religious set of people and the religions practised in the country teach us to live in love and peace with one another as well as be our neighbours’ brothers and sisters.

“More than ever, we have the responsibility to make the country habitable, devoid of criminal elements, and we must be resolute on this.”

The Speaker congratulated Muslims in Nigeria for witnessing the end of the Ramadan.

“Beyond the celebration, let us all endlessly practise the virtues of love, obey the commandments of Allah, ensure a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Nigeria and continue to pray to God for more grace,” Obasa urged.
