LAGOS ASSEMBLY INTENSIFIES CALL ON STATE POLICING

As a pioneer of many positive State and National forward thinking laws, Lagos State House of Assembly has intensified its call on the National Assembly for the establishment of State Police to restructure security challenges in all States.
This was disclosed under the Matter of Urgent Public Importance during the Plenary on Monday.
Lawmakers unanimously supported the prayers of Hon. Rauf Age-Sulaimon, who during a campaign rally narrowly escaped a gunshot attack, which left one APC Chieftain Kayode Samuel dead in its wake.
Hon. Age-Sulaimon, while narrating the event leading to the deceased’s passing; implored the House as a matter of urgency to call on the Commissioner of Police to reinforce effort on adequate security of lives and properties in the State.
He further called on the National Assembly to take proactive measures towards establishing State Police to put matters of insecurity across the nation in check.
Adducing that the formation into Nigerian Policing system is the solution to curbing the incessant security problem in the Country; Hon. Rotimi Olowo stated that the attackers from the incident in Agboju area of Amuwo/Odofin II constituency be investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Hon. Oluyinka Ogundinmu added that as representatives of the people, lives of the people are important and there should be instilling of punitive and preventive measures to avoid reoccurrence of the aforementioned incident.
Emphasising the greater need to decentralise the Police Force and delivering more powers to the State for security purposes and for addressing the security challenges; Members urged the State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to strengthen the protection of lives and properties of Lagosians.
