The race for the Speakership of the 10th Lagos Assembly may have been settled by the intervention of President Bola Tinubu and the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) on Saturday.

August24news.com can authoritatively reports that for the past few weeks, there had been serious politicking between the incumbent Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and his challenger, Hon. Abiodun Tobun over who becomes the Speaker of the House in the 10th Assembly.

It was gathered that the mild drama that occured during the 9th Assembly valedictory session on June 2, prompted the GAC and Tinubu to intervene quickly to nip in the bud the likely crisis that might brew out of the drama.

Our reporter gathered that when the report of what transpired got to Tinubu in Abuja, he quickly called on the GAC to meet and take decision on the leadership of the 10th Assembly.

It was learnt that the directive given to the GAC prompted the party elders to convene a meeting yesterday (Saturday) to ask Obasa to retain his Speakership seat while Tobun takes the Deputy Speakership seat.

One of the GAC members who was at the meeting and does not want his name mentioned told August24news.com that the highest decision making body intervention would bring about peace and stability in the House and the Lagos APC, saying that the elders would continue to monitor developments in the House.

” We met yesterday to douse the tension. We were informed of what happened at the floor of the House on Friday which we are not happy about. Lagos APC is one united family. We know how to resolve our issues and settle dispute among ourselves. Any member of our party can aspire for any position he or she wishes and when it is becoming crisis, we have the audacity to step in and address it amicably.

” Yes, President Tinubu heard of what happened too and quickly directed us (GAC) to meet and take decision on the matter. As elders in the party, we considered many factors before settling for Obasa to retain his Speakership while Tobun to be the Deputy Speaker. Both of them are qualified and are ranking members of the House.

” Obasa comes from Lagos West, Tobun from Lagos East while the Governor from Lagos Central. Our Deputy Governor is from Lagos East. We think and believe all the 3 Senatorial districts is settled and carried along.

” Other principal officers can be decided by the members themselves. Although, we will keep a close watch of what the House will be doing becuase we want stability and cordial relationship between the Executive arm and Legislative arm”.

With this latest development, it is expected that the proclamation of the 10th Lagos Assembly would be a rancor free and seamless experience as Lawmakers-elect are expected to honour and respect the decision of the GAC.
