The Chairman of National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf, has called for deeper collaboration and institutional synergy between the Commission and its technical partner, Banksforte Technologies Limited (BTL), to strengthen Nigeria’s population data system and drive national transformation.

Dr. Yusuf made the call today, 4th February 2026, while declaring open a retreat jointly organised by the NPC and Banksforte Technologies Limited, themed “Enhancing Synergy: Strengthening the NPC-BTL Compact for National Transformation and Growth,” at Lakowe Lake Resort in Lagos State.
In his opening address, the NPC Chairman described the retreat as “both timely and strategic,” noting that it reflects the shared recognition of the growing importance of public-private partnerships in a data-driven world.
“Effective population management can no longer be achieved through institutional effort alone, but through deliberate, well-structured partnerships that combine public mandate with private sector innovation and technical expertise,” he stated.
Dr. Yusuf emphasised that the Commission plays a vital role in Nigeria’s development framework, given its responsibility for generating, managing, and disseminating credible population and demographic data.
He explained that such data is crucial for national planning, governance, security, economic growth, and social development. “From census preparation to civil registration and vital statistics, our mandate demands precision, integrity, innovation, and sustained institutional capacity,” the Chairman said.
Reflecting on the Commission’s ongoing partnership with Banksforte Technologies, Dr. Yusuf commended the company’s contribution to modernising the NPC’s operations through technology-driven solutions, digital systems, and process optimisation.
According to him, the collaboration has facilitated the Commission’s transition towards modern, efficient, and globally aligned population data management practices.
However, he noted that as national development challenges continue to evolve, the Commission must continually reassess and adapt its strategies.
“This retreat provides a critical platform for reflection, an opportunity to assess the effectiveness of our collaboration, identify gaps and emerging needs, and chart a clearer, more impactful pathway for the NPC-BTL partnership in support of national transformation and growth,” Dr. Yusuf said.
He described the event as more than a routine engagement, stressing that it is a “working retreat designed to deepen mutual understanding, strengthen institutional synergy, and align operational strategies with the Commission’s long-term vision.”
Dr. Yusuf urged participants to approach the retreat with openness, creativity, and a commitment to practical outcomes, encouraging them to share experiences, challenge assumptions, and propose actionable solutions that will enhance institutional performance.
He commended Banksforte Technologies Limited for its steadfast partnership and also appreciated the organising committee for their efforts in putting the event together.
He then formally declared the retreat open, wishing all participants productive and successful deliberations.
Those in attendance included Federal Commissioners, the Director-General and senior officials of the NPC, alongside the GMD of BTL and representatives of UNICEF Nigeria and ALGON.
