The Chairman of National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing staff welfare as part of his 7-Point Agenda, which has received widespread endorsement within and outside the Commission.

Dr. Yusuf made the pledge today, 3rd February 2026, during a working visit to the NPC Lagos State Office in Surulere, as part of his ongoing official engagements in the state.

“I will work as a labourer to see the Commission work and staff happy,” he said.

The NPC Chairman disclosed that the Commission has initiated discussions with key federal agencies to improve staff remuneration and living conditions.

“We are already engaging with the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission and the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to increase staff salaries and explore affordable housing opportunities for NPC staff nationwide,” he added.

Dr. Yusuf commended the Federal Commissioner representing Lagos State, Barr. Mrs. Saidat Olayinka Oladunjoye, for her warm reception, hospitality, intellectual contributions, and dedication to the Commission’s progress. He described her as one of the best and most outstanding Federal Commissioners in the NPC and a true ambassador of Lagos State’s “Centre of Excellence” slogan.

He also lauded Mrs. Samiat Olabimpe Lawal, the immediate past Director of the Public Affairs Department and a Lagos indigene, for her outstanding service to the Commission during her tenure.

The NPC boss noted that Lagos is the third state he has visited since assuming office on December 3, 2025, coincidentally marking exactly two months in office on this day of the visit.

Dr. Yusuf expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to transform the Commission through purposeful leadership.

“Mr. President appointed me to transform the Commission, and I assure you that the staff will not regret having me as Chairman. I know where to go, and who to meet to get things done,” Dr. Aminu Yusuf.

In her remarks, Barr. Oladunjoye thanked the Chairman and his entourage for the visit, describing him as a visionary and humble leader. She prayed for his successful tenure and pledged the unalloyed support of the Lagos office staff.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the NPC, Dr. Osifo Tellson Ojogun, urged staff to demonstrate dedication and integrity in carrying out their duties. He emphasized that the effective implementation of the electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (e-CRVS) system is key to the Commission’s overall success, which is one of the major focuses of the Chairman’s visit.

The State Director of the Lagos Office, Mrs. Adekolu Olamide, appreciated Dr. Yusuf for his visit and assured him of the staff’s commitment to achieving the Commission’s goals.

During the visit, the Chairman and his delegation also inspected the Commission’s permanent State Office, which is currently undergoing remodeling and reconstruction.

The event concluded with the presentation of gifts to the NPC Chairman and his entourage by the Federal Commissioner for Lagos State.
