The Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative for Africa (ASR) has donated a newly constructed Administrative Block to the College of Health Sciences of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS), Sokoto, worth N250 million. This intervention forms part of the ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grants Scheme and the Initiative’s commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure in tertiary institutions in Nigeria and across Africa. It represents an investment in the university’s capacity to support effective delivery of its institutional responsibilities and contribute to the advancement of medical education in Nigeria.

The university officially took over the Administrative Block, named Abdul Samad Rabiu Admin Block, during its official commissioning ceremony at the College of Health Sciences, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) in Sokoto.

During his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bashir Garba (MFR), described the donation of the admin block as historic and recognized the Chairman of ASR Africa, Abdul Samad Rabiu (CFR, CON), as a great philanthropist who has been impacting humanity over the years with the same gesture.

The Vice Chancellor said: “I believe I am the most fortunate public servant because wherever I go as a public servant in the State to head an institution, I regularly encounter the impact of the donations by ASR Africa through its Chairman. This project being commissioned today is another testimony of such encounters as the Vice Chancellor of this great institution.”

I want to assure ASR Africa and its Chairman, represented here by the MD/CEO, Dr. Ubon Ubon, that we will make the best use of this edifice being commissioned today. This facility proved helpful when the university was seeking accreditation conducted by the Medical and Dental Council, as it complemented the university’s infrastructure critical to the accreditation exercise.

The Managing Director/CEO, ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, during his remarks stated: “This project being commissioned today is one of the 30 grants to 30 universities in Nigeria. We are very proud to be associated with the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, as it scored very high in ASR Africa’s assessment process. As a university that has been a center of excellence, we look forward to greater partnerships that will continue to contribute positive impact to the university.”

Dr. Ubon added that the project reaffirms the commitment of the Chairman of ASR Africa, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, to delivering sustainable, impact-driven programs across health, education, and social development sectors.

The Abdul Samad Rabiu Admin Block comprises 20 staff offices, including the office of the departmental head, panel room, staff conveniences, and storage facilities, which will provide dedicated and more convenient workspaces for teaching and research activities. It is located within the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) complex.
