Group of Lawyers, Concerned Patriots Front (CPF) has called on the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, and the Nigerian Police Force to begin immediate action to curb menace of fake lawyers as they are growing in their numbers.
According to the group, the call has become necessary at this time due to rise in reports received on fraudulent activities perpetrated by these fake lawyers on unsuspecting Nigerians.
The group exposing one Emmanuel Umohinyang as an example of fake lawyers, the group disclosed that “a certain Emmanuel Umohinyang and cronies of fake lawyers have established several fronts in a bid to swindle unsuspecting Nigerians one of which is the Re-elect Buhari Movement, (RBM) whose national coordinator is another Goodluck Obi, an Independent Director at the Nigerian Police Mortgage Bank.”
“Findings have however revealed that that the said Mr. Emmanuel Umohinyang has just graduated from the Department of Law at the National Open University Of Nigeria (NOUN) with the serial number: 231, as made available on the NOUN 2018 graduation list, with Matric Number: NOU110369681 but has not been to law school let alone graduating from one.” CPF added.
It was also gathered that Umohinyang overtime has been parading himself as an as an Aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital Strategy and Civil Society, dropping the names of the President and the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris to swindle unsuspecting members of the public.
“We hereby call for the urgent intervention of the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Bar Association to rescue innocent Nigerians by cracking-down these fake lawyers before they run the noble profession of law to the ground” the group noted.
Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has appointed Adeshina Oyetayo, a former columnist with Punch Newspaper, as his Special Adviser on Research, Media and Documentation.

The appointment, which took effect in March, marks a significant addition to the Speaker’s team as Oyetayo brings with him fecund experience and expertise in the media ecosystem spanning over two decades.

He went on to serve as Managing Editor of the Lagos Indicator magazine from 2014 and was an undercover reporter for the BBC Africa Eye. He is also the author of Behind the Streets, a book that profiles the personalities whose names are synonymous with certain areas in Lagos.
An award-winning journalist, Oyetayo was, among other recognitions and honours, a finalist in the CNN/MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year award 2006, Young Journalist of the Year 2005, Journalist of the Year at The Future Awards Africa 2007, and Best Music Writer, MTV MAMA Awards 2010.

Journalists’ cooperative society announces formal take-off

The Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS) has announced its formal take-off.
The President of IMPCMS and Publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, made the announcement in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to Oladipo, the formal commencement of activities followed the completion of all registration formalities and opening of a bank account.
According to the statement, this also followed the approval of the Executive Committee of the IMPCMS, which now has the full compliments of members.
Apart from Oladipo, other members of the Executive Committee include Ugomma Cookey, a member of the Board of the Media Career Development Network, as Vice President; Nkanu Egbe, Publisher of Lagos Metropolitan, as General Secretary; Ijeoma Popoola, Editor with the News Agency of Nigeria, Financial Secretary; and Dolapo Otegbayi, a prominent media and marketing consultant, as Treasurer.
The Ex-Officio Members are media trainer, Taiwo Obe; and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of WVL Development Advisers Limited and former Acting Managing Director/CEO of Bank of Industry, Dr. Waheed Olagunju.
To join the cooperative society, which is for practicing journalists and media professionals, would-be members are expected to fill a form, which can be obtained at the secretariat at 1, James Robertson Street, Surulere, Lagos.

All members of the Executive Committee of the IMPCMS have also become financial members.
The society was formed as a fallout of the Second Nigerian Media Leaders’ Summit held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, in 2024, and organised by The Journalism Clinic, founded by Obe.
