NiDCOM BOSS MOURNS JOURNALIST DOTUN OLADIPO

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, Mr Dotun Oladipo, who died in Lagos on 25 August 2026 at the age of 56.

In a condolence message, the Chairman described Oladipo’s passing as a devastating loss to Nigerian journalism and to the media community that relied on his mentorship for decades.

“I received the news of Dotun’s sudden passing with great shock and sadness. He was a fine journalist whose commitment to truth, accuracy and professionalism earned him the respect of colleagues across the industry. His sudden death is a painful reminder of how fragile life is, and our thoughts are with his family, colleagues and all who knew him at this difficult time,” the Chairman said.

Mr Oladipo built a distinguished career spanning nearly three decades across Nigeria’s traditional and digital media landscape. He began his journalism career with the Nigerian Tribune before working with the Nigerian Compass, The Sun and Punch Newspapers, where he served as Political Editor.

In 2011, he founded The Eagle Online, becoming its publisher and managing editor, and grew it into one of the country’s respected digital news platforms covering politics, business, sports and entertainment.

He also served as Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, was a former president of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), where he was later honoured as Emeritus President, and was the founding president of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS).

Dabiri-Erewa commended Oladipo’s contribution to the growth of professional online publishing in Nigeria and his role in mentoring a new generation of digital journalists.

She prayed for the repose of his soul and for God’s comfort upon his family, friends and colleagues at The Eagle Online during this period of mourning.
