The 38-year-old man was seen being beaten to coma by the Chairman of MOAN in a viral video obtained by August24news.com on Thursday.

According to available information, the incident occurred at Beecroft Street, Lagos Island, last week.

Shameloon, who many says claims to be a close ally of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was seen in the video maltreating a Marwa driver.

When Imam tried to intervene on behalf of the Marwa driver, Shameloon turned on him, beating him to stupor.

Imam is the younger brother of the CEO of Sly Bar in Okesuna area of Lagos Island.

However, the matter was not reported to the police until the 38-year-old man died days after in the hospital where he was receiving treatment.

It was only after this that the development was reported to the police at Adeniji Adele Police Station.

The day Imam died also coincided with the day Shameloon beat a despatch rider to coma in the area.

The victim was taken to Lagos Island General Hospital.

A human rights lawyer and social activist, Comrade Fatai Animashahun, told newsmen that the time had come to “put a stop to molesting ourselves in this country all in the name of being an area father or close associate of the governor”.

Animashahun said: “He must reap what he sowed.

“He who kills by the sword will surely be killed by the sword.

“We have all the video evidences where Alhaji Adio Shameloon was dragging and punching the late Rahman.”

The Special Adviser on Media to Sanwo-Olu, Gboyega Akosile, dissociated Shameloon from his principal adding that the governor has been working tirelessly for the security of life and properties of Lagos residence.

Akosile said the police will look into the matter and the state government will allow the law to take its full course.

He said Lagosians should in no way associate the incident with Sanwo-Olu.

The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrest of Shameloon to August24news.com in an interview on Thursday.

Adebisi said the incident was only reported to the police after the death of Imam.

The Police Public Relations Officer said the Chairman of MOAN on Lagos Island had been picked up by operatives at the Adeniji Adele Police Station.

He has, however, been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos State for further and thorough investigation following insinuation that he was influencing investigation at Adeniji Adele Police State.

Adebisi confirmed the beating of the despatch rider also.

She said members of the family of the late Imam have been invited to make Official statements on the matter.

Efforts to speak with the Chairman of the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, Hon. Muibi Alade Folawiyo, and Chairman of the Lagos State National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), which oversees MOAN, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
