DRUG ABUSE: OBASA, MEMBERS CALL ON MR. GOV. FOR STATE SENSITIZATIONimages (1)

Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa and Members of the House on Thursday, called on Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct all State Ministries, Departments and Agents ncies, MDAs’ particularly, the Office of Civic Engagement to sensitize Lagosians and school students on the usage and effect of drug abuse in the State on a regular basis.
The prayer, led by Hon. (Engr.) Gbolahan Yishawu on the floor of the House, is sequel to the 7th Annual Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting held simultaneously in all the 40 constituencies of the State, tagged: “Increasing Wave of Drug Abuse: A threat to Nation Building.”
The report which was deliberated on the floor, generated various submissions from the Lawmakers.
Speaker Obasa disclosed that at Agege constituency 1, both Chieftains, Civil Servants, Enforcement Officials, Traders, students and residents all came together to discuss the effect of drug abuse, among other concerning issues affecting the constituents.
Adding that the primary responsibility of the Lawmakers is to fervently represent the yearnings of the people; Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Obasa said that private sector should also work on harmonizing relationship with the government, by ensuring that their presence at government forums such as the Annual Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting is not excluded.
Concerning the unanimous recommendations by the people, that the forum be observed twice in a year; the Speaker said that the suggestion is a welcome idea, that would be deliberated upon and all other suggestions and concerns will be directed to Mr. Governor.
Speaking earlier, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasi Sanni Eshinlokuni revealed that the forum was accepted by all and sundry of Lagos Island constituency 1, especially on the rampant use of drug raiding the State, which representative of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA at the forum, had a talk on with constituents at length.
His position was supported by Hon. Noheem Adams, the Deputy Majority Leader, who added that the constituents of Eti-Osa 1 were joyous with the response of the State Government over their concerns and issues in the course of the year.
Hon. Rotimi Olowo, in his contribution, noted that in Somolu 1, the constituents in their elation at the theme and outcome of the forum, implored the House to promote the NDLEA talk into a Lagos State Government project that would be a recurring event for the benefit of Lagosians at large.
Hon. Fatai Oluwa expressed that, in addition to their gratitude and commendation to the House; some of the constituents that were victims of the #EndSARS vandalisation protest, implored the House for the dispensation of the compensation promised to them.
Similarly listing the yearnings of the people, Hon. Femi Saheed noted that the residents of Kosofe 11 implored the State Government that the construction of Stadium would put Kosofe on the Lagos map as a revenue generating constituency as well as build cultural celebration of arts and crafts for the people.
Affirming that the yearnings of the people would be considered by the House; the Speaker directed the Acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko to send a clean copy of the resolution and report of the Annual Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting to Mr. Governor.
