LAGOS ASSEMBLY EULOGIZE LATE MR HERBERT WIGWE

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday eulogised the late Herbert Wigwe, Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, during a Plenary session.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa described Mr. Wigwe as a philanthropist who has impacted so many lives during his lifetime.
Obasa said: “His demise is shocking and unexpected.”
Speaking on his last meeting with Mr. Wigwe while on his way from Abuja to Lagos, the Speaker said, he was marveled at the latter’s wealth of knowledge about government, politics and the economy.
The Speaker noted: “With the challenge facing the economy right now, someone who in terms of professionalism and skills in the banking industry just passed away after all the struggles.
All we have to do now is mourn. We should all be prepared for death even though none of us can say when it will happen.”
He advised that the colleagues who will take charge should endeavour to keep up with the legacies Wigwe left behind especially in terms of sports.
“The Lagos City Marathon has now been registered not only in Lagos State but in Nigeria and other countries,” the Speaker said.
Expressing his condolences, Hon. Desmond Elliot said: “Though wealthy, Mr. Wigwe was accessible.”
Talking about his personal relationship with the late Access Bank CEO, Hon. Desmond said: “Mr. Wigwe was a family man. He always put family first even when he was doing a lot for humanity.”
Hon. Abiodun Orekoya who spoke about the late Mr. Wigwe said: “I met him a couple of times and a few weeks ago, he invited me for the marathon and I must say he was a sports lover.
“l commiserate with the family and may God give them the fortitude to bear the loss,” he added.
To this end the Speaker has directed the Clerk of the House, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko, to write a condolence letter to the family and the bank.
