LAGOS LAWMAKERS CELEBRATE SPEAKER OBASA AT 51

Members of Lagos State House of Assembly during plenary on Thursday eulogised the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa on his 51st birthday.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Noheem Adams, who announced this, noted that the Speaker is a leader worthy of emulation.
“Born on November 11, 1972 in Agege, Obasa started his political career as a councillor in Agege. He was elected into Lagos State House of Assembly representing Agege Constituency 1 in 2003 and became Speaker in 2015. He was re-elected in 2019 and further re-elected in 2023,” Hon. Adams said.
The lawmaker stated that the Speaker has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the State parliament through Bills and Laws that were initiated by him.
He listed some of them to include the Neighbourhood Safety Corps Law; Anti-kidnapping Law, Cancer Institute Law, Yoruba Language and Preservation Law among others.
Hon. Adedamola Kasumu, Deputy Majority Leader of the House, described the Speaker as a legislator who knows his onions.
In his eulogy, Deputy Whip, Hon. Setonji David, emphasised that the Speaker is a diligent leader and a good listener.
In another development the recommendations of a five-man ad-hoc committee on a petition titled “Undue exemption from Lagos State Government Compensation for EndSARS Looting Victim” has been adopted as the resolution of the House.
The committee recommended that the victim identified as Mrs. E.S. Salami should go to the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, LIRS, office for her tax payment history.
The House asked her to also reapply for the grant through the available portal which will be opened soon to the public and ensure that she comply with the conditions attached to the compensation process.
The House also called on officials of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund to assist the petitioner by ensuring that she is duly compensated after fulfilling all necessary conditions.
