‘No To Darkness,’ Protesters Shut Down IBEDC Office in Ibadan

Electricity consumers and customers of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) on Monday besieged the office of the utility firm in protest of what they described as “darkness allegedly meted to them by the company.

Platforms Africa reports that the IBEDC has since closed their offices to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The protesters who came from Olodo to Iyana Offa in Oyo State took to the streets to protest against what they described as the continuous disconnection by the IBEDC.

In their large number, the protesters stormed the IBEDC office located in Alabebe along Iwo -Olodo road and obstruct free movement of vehicular activities.

The protesters came from communities covering Adewumi, Trailer Park, Adeleye, Erunmu, Fatumo, Atari, Lalupon, Ejioku, Ile-Igbon, Iyana-Ofa among others.

Some of them alleged that they have been disconnected by IBEDC for over five years with no hope of reconnection.

Platforms Africa reports that the placards displayed by the protesters have different inscriptions including; “What’s our sin, IBEDC. Give us light,” “let there be light,” “We say no to darkness from IBEDC,” among others.
