The residents argue that considering the current economic hardship faced by many Nigerians, this move is highly unacceptable, going by the fact that this is a low income residential area.
The residents argue about their right to subscribe to services as it’s convenient for them and not by forceful coercion as Ikeja Electric is attempting to do.
According to Mr Yusuf Adeyemi Chairman of Estate Youth Parliament:”Residents believe that as a low-cost estate, they should not be burdened with the implications of being moved to Band A, which could lead to higher costs for power usage and exorbitant payments”.
Adding that:”Many residents are already struggling with multiple bills, including school fees for their children, amidst rising costs of living in Nigeria”.
Residents call on the leadership and management of Ikeja Electric, as well as leaders in the power sector, to reconsider this decision. Calling on the Ejigbo LCDA Chairman to wade into the matter.
They highlight the potential for added hardship to residents if the migration to Band A takes effect in September.
The Estate Youth Parliament on behalf of residents, appeal to leaders in all sectors to consider the challenges faced by common people and seek permanent solutions to address these issues.
It should be noted that many of the residents of the Low Cost Housing Estate are pensioners and low income earners
They urge those in the power sector not to exacerbate the difficulties already faced by many Nigerians.
