Anambra State ANSEC Denounced Obiano’s Death Rumours
The misleading rumour on social media about the death of the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has been condemned by Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) and described as sad and reckless.

The Council strongly denounced this report and thanked God for the excellent health enjoyed by the state’s past leader.
According to the State’s Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the condemnation was made at the 23rd ANSEC meeting, held at the Light House, Awka, on Monday, 17th November 2025, where other state issues of sustainable development were deliberated upon.
In an earlier development, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Christian Aburime, affirmed that the governor categorically confirmed that he has spoken to Chief Willie Obiano, and he is alive and well.
He said the governor views with grave concern the reckless dissemination of such malicious rumours as wicked and irresponsible. He strongly enjoins all media practitioners, especially online publishers, to uphold the ethics of journalism by verifying information through official channels before publication.
In light of this, Governor Soludo asserted that the spread of unverified death rumour is not only wicked and irresponsible but also erodes public trust, the statement added.
Therefore, the Governor urges the general public to disregard the trending rumour, and rest assured that the former governor is alive, hale and hearty.
